BIOGRAPHY

Stephen G. Marx, CEO and Founder of Marx Biotechnology Ltd, and also the inventor of the disruptive in vitro blood diagnostic platform with both monitoring and therapeutic capabilities (personalized medicine that will lead to a whole new generation of drug development). Dr. Marx is one of the leading experts in the GSK-3beta molecule and its known and established functions in the human body. How the GSK-3beta kinase, its pathways and the proteins that regulate those pathways can be utilized to monitor the onset and progression of various disorders. How it can be utilized to monitor the patient’s condition and determine if treatments are effective. How it can be utilized to identify what is causing the problem and the best way treat it. Marx Biotechnology is developing a disruptive, platform early stage blood diagnostic technology with both monitoring and therapeutic capabilities. It monitors the functions that have to change on the molecular level for numerous disease states to occur such as Parkinson’s, sepsis, cancer, preeclampsia, Ebola, uterine smooth muscle contractility, cervical ripening, inflammatory bowel disease, and Leukemia. For our first application, we are developing a blood test for the early diagnosis of graft versus host disease (GVHD) which is the leading cause of death in bone marrow transplant patients. It monitors the patient’s condition over the first 120 days after the transplant indicating to the physician when the patient’s life is at risk. The first stage of the project is the diagnostic kit development. The second stage of the project is drug development based on information obtained from the diagnostic kit. Thirty-seven potential target sites for the treatment of GVHD have already been identified based on the animal data, human T-cell data and mass spectrometry data.

RESEARCH INTEREST

Working to develop a first in class molecular diagnostic kit (protein chip, EYLSA, and Westerns, Immunoprecipitation, and Mass Spectrometry), a blood test, with both monitoring and therapeutic applications (personalized medicine – therapeutic screening and development – this will lead to a whole new generation of drug development) that detects and monitors normal and abnormal levels of cellular proliferation, apoptosis, and protein synthesis, differentiation, migration, smooth muscle contraction, and micro-tubule organization.

Working to develop drugs that regulate normal and abnormal levels of cellular proliferation, apoptosis, protein synthesis, differentiation, migration, smooth muscle contraction and micro-tubule organization. 

Working to develop a first in class molecular diagnostic kit (protein chip, EYLSA, and Westerns, Immunoprecipitation, and Mass Spectrometry) that identifies, monitors and diagnoses the early onset of Graft Versus Host Disease during phase 2 of the disorder. An entire stage earlier than presently can be done prior to the patient’s being attack.
